Choosing a high efficiency gas furnace

There are three main types of high efficiency (condensing) forced air furnaces:

♦ Basic furnace. These furnaces have one stage of heat and multi speed blower motor. Furnaces made by American Standard and Goodman are good quality solid products. They have efficiency 92%. ♦ One step up furnaces have two stage heating. This is the main difference. It allows the furnace to heat the rooms of the house more evenly. This forced air gas furnace also gets $700 in Rebates.

♦ Top of the line furnaces too have two or more stages of heating, but also they have the variable speed

blower motor. It is also called DC motor or ECM motor.

Those who get a high efficiency furnace with variable speed (DC, ECM) motor love their furnaces for top efficiency up to 96.7%, even heat throughout the house and quiet operations. The secret is in the motor. It is so efficient and quiet that you can keep the furnace fan running all the time.
