It's easy to name the Best Furnace Brand. This is Lennox. In that brand there is Best Furnace for every house. Whether it is sound level, efficiency or capacity.
We install 3 Lennox furnace models to our customers. Here's a link to the Lennox's site comparing these furnaces. In few words:
BLOWER MOTOR All furnaces use variable speed DC motor
STAGES OF HEATING SLP99V is modulating. The other two furnaces, EL296V and ML296V, are 2-stage furnaces. We don't use 1-stage furnaces. These days it is even below builder's entry level.
EFFICIENCY All of them are high efficiency. SLP99V has efficiency 99%. Just can't get higher.
Depending on what is more important for the home owner - noise, even heat, budget - we have best furnace to install for every need.
SLP99V MODULATING FURNACE
SLP99V Feature-by-feature this modulating furnace is the best furnace on the market. In some houses with special requirements this is the only furnace that meets them.
The MOST QUIET
The MOST EFFICIENT - up to 99%
SLP99V can throttle down to as low as 35% of it's capacity. Thus delivering the MOST EVEN HEAT throughout the house
To use variable capacity feature (modulating) SLP99V should be used with iComfort thermostat
EL296V TWO-STAGE VARIALE SPEED FURNACE
EL296V is a two-stage furnace with variable speed DC blower motor.
Fully insulated cabinet
Efficiency - 96%
Produces even heat distribution in the house
Runs as low as 70% of capacity. Delivers the EVEN HEAT throughout the house
This furnace install does not mandate 2-pipe vents. That provides more flexibility during furnace installation.
ML296V TWO-STAGE VARIALE SPEED FURNACE
ML296V Brings advanced features to furnace on a budget. New furnace cost looks like a bargain considering that high efficiency furnaces these days live 20 years when maintained properly.
Variable speed blower motor is energy efficient
Saving energy both on gas and on electrical side.
This furnace install does not mandate 2-pipe vents. That provides more flexibility during furnace installation
How two-stage furnace works
Unlike a single-stage furnace, a two-stage furnace starts at a low stage - 60-70% of the heating capacity. Runs on the low stage for up to 10 min. Only after that, if the thermostat still calling for heat, the two-stage furnace switches to the full capacity.
Two-stage vs single-stage
First of all, a two-stage furnace gives more even heat throughout the house. Also, a two-stage furnace is more quiet and more efficient. The price difference is hardly a couple of hundred dollars. These days, a typical builder's furnace is a two-stage one.
Two-stage furnace with single-stage thermostat
A two-stage furnace can work with a single-stage thermostat. Running an extra thermostat wire is not required. In this case the installer changes a setting on the furnace's board. The furnace will start in the low heat stage and runs in that mode for a few minutes. If the thermostat is still calling for heat after that, the furnace switches to the full heat stage.
Two-stage furnace with Nest or Ecobee thermostats
No problem even if you have only 4 thermostat wires.
