Rebates for Heat Pumps

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) revised Canada’s EcoENERGY Retrofit –Homes Program. These revisions, effective July 1, 2009 include changes to equipment eligibility within the grant program heat pumps.

Eligibility of Air-Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)

ASHPs are commonly matched with furnaces in the marketplace and can reach efficiencies that meet or exceed minimum ASHP ENERGY STAR specifications. NRCan will now accept all ENERGY STAR qualified ASHP/furnace packages. Effective immediately, an incentive will be paid for both measures (a grant for the furnace if it qualifies and an ASHP grant).

ASHPs must meet all of the following requirements for grant eligibility under the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program and must be identified as ENERGY STAR in the NRCan database (http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/residential/b usiness/manufacturers/search/heat-pumps-search.cfm). They must be ENERGY STAR qualified as a matched combination of outdoor and indoor coils, where the inside coil can be a fan coil or can include a furnace match (ENERGY STAR minimum criteria includes SEER 14.5, HSPF 7.1 (region V) and EER 12).
