From January 1, 2009 COOL SAVINGS REBATE Program run by Ontario Power Authority will be replaced by "The Every Kilowatt Counts - Heating and Cooling Rebate Program" for residential heating and cooling.
Changes to the sizes of Rebates are minor, but there are other changes that are worth mentioning.
1. The bar for Energy Star air conditioners and heat pumps will be raised. The minimum ENERGY STAR criteria is changing from 14.0 SEER to 14.5 SEER and 11.5 EER to 12.0 EER.
It makes it more difficult to get $250 rebate for an air conditioner. First of all stand alone air conditioners with SEER rating 14 "out of the box" are no longer eligible for any rebates.

Some of them, depending on the model and the manufacturer, get SEER rating upgraded to 15 when installed on the top of the furnace with variable speed motor(ECM). In that case the air conditioner will still be eligible for $400 rebate.
Models with 13 SEER "out of the box" rating don't get any rebates at all. They also get performance boost when installed with a furnace with ECM - up to 14 SEER. No longer it is enough to get any rebates.
2. All rebate submissions will be completed using online system. No more paper form submissions. Submissions supposed to be made by customers.
