Mid Efficiency Furnaces Phase Out
Federal Energy Efficiency Regulations (Amendment # 10) published on December 24, 2008 in Canada Gazette II includes the following: " Residential gas furnaces manufactured on or after December 31, 2009 will be required to meet a minimum AFUE of 90%."
Comment. Basically it means that only high efficiency furnaces will manufactured starting next year.

Mid Efficiency Furnace Phase Out at the End of 2009
High efficiency furnaces require running of 2 plastic vent from the furnace to the outside. In many houses running vents is not practical because the furnace room is located in the middle of the finished basement. A more practical solution would be to install a mid efficiency furnace and to connect it to the existing chimney.
Mid efficiency furnaces will be sorely missed by many home owners.
